Do you know a staff member who goes above and beyond?
Nominate them for the Starfish Award!

Alyssa Gould, Starfish Award 2020 Saint Elizabeth Home

In 2014, Saint Elizabeth Manor, formerly a member of Saint Elizabeth Community, received an anonymous donation in honor of the many employees who demonstrate exemplary service to patients and families. This gift served to establish a new recognition program for employees: The Starfish Award.

Inspired by the poem, "Starfish", this annual award recognizes employees whose care philosophy touches the hearts of those they serve in a way that is above and beyond any job description. Every position at Saint Elizabeth Community has the potential of making a difference in the lives of those we serve…direct caregivers and support staff alike. Any employee in a non-management position is eligible for recognition. Nominations may be submitted by current clients or family members, volunteers and staff of any Saint Elizabeth Community entity.

In 2019, the family of Mary Jane “MJ” Hanley, a long-time resident at Saint Elizabeth Home, donated the funds to expand the program to the Home. Donors Fred Harrison and Susan Trusedell brought the program to Saint Elizabeth Adult Day Centers in 2021. The program has now expanded to include all locations of Saint Elizabeth Community.

A nominee will be selected from Saint Elizabeth Home; Saint Elizabeth Adult Day Centers; and Saint Elizabeth Home Care, Saint Elizabeth Assisted Living, Saint Elizabeth Apartments for Seniors and Saint Elizabeth Apartments for Seniors and Mobility-Impaired as a collective.

The Starfish Award is presented each year on, or around, November 13th which is World Kindness Day and includes a $250 American Express Gift Card, a commemorative pin, and framed certificate. The winner will remain confidential until the ceremony.

Over the years, we have received nearly 200 nominations! The Starfish Award has become a wonderful tradition and celebration of our staff.
